Be Unique. Don't Use Online Dating Clichés

7. May 2010 by Christy 0 Comments

If you want to attract a man’s attention, you must have a strong profile. Unfortunately, many ladies unknowingly weaken their profiles when they use online dating clichés. An online dating cliché is a statement or expression that many people use on dating websites, and if you use one on your profile you risk coming across as boring and unoriginal.

Here are 5 clichés to avoid and what you should say instead.

“No cheaters/liars/perverts”

No woman wants to date a man who cheats, lies, or acts perverted, so why even mention it in your profile? Don’t waste space talking about what you don’t want, focus instead on what you do.

“I love life” or “I love to laugh”

As opposed to death and sadness? Though painfully obvious, statements like "I love life" or "I love having a good time" appear on thousands of online dating profiles. Try not to use them if you want a man to notice, and be impressed by, your profile.

“I want a good man”

Every lady wants a good man and the word good can mean different things to different people. What does it mean to you? Honest? Caring? Sensitive? It’s important to be specific. Instead of just saying “I want a good man,” say something like “I want a sensitive man who isn’t afraid to be romantic.”

“I enjoy walking on the beach” or “I love watching a beautiful sunset”

Beaches and sunsets are perhaps the biggest online dating clichés of them all. While there’s certainly nothing wrong with enjoying a walk on the beach or watching a nice sunset, nearly everyone enjoys these activities and they tell a gentleman nothing unique about you. What things are you into that might interest others? Dancing? Skiing? Going to the cinema? Mention hobbies like this, rather than the stereotypical walk on the beach.

“I like to try new things”

This may be true, but online daters use the expression so often that it’s become meaningless. A little more information can make this statement more interesting. How do you go about trying new things? Do you enjoy trying new foods? Do you travel to other countries? Are you taking up an interesting new hobby? The fact that you’re interested in dating a man from another country is a good start. Expand on that.

If you want your profile to be unique and interesting, try not to use online dating clichés like those listed above. The best way to avoid clichés is to be specific, be yourself, and not say anything that is painfully obvious.
